Notes

Highway closures, collisions and construction on Anthony Henday, Yellowhead, QEII and the ring-road approaches — the commuter-facing half of an Edmonton morning brief.

RECORDED 2026-10-12 (DECISIONS #41, the owner accepted the recommendation): a published feed — the province's documented developer API (511.alberta.ca/developers/doc), read with a key under terms that permit non-commercial reproduction without further permission. Read at the edge only: functions/mapfeed.js (the map's roads layer) and functions/live.js (the strip). Enabled now because the edge reads it; the old note below ('row stays enabled=false: the consumer is edge-only') described a rule the fetch ledger (#39) retired. Every credit links the terms page as the licence. AUTH-GATED (2026-08-23): the API now answers HTTP 400 {"Message":"Invalid Key"} with or without an Accept header — a free developer key from 511.alberta.ca/developers unlocks it. This entry sat ENABLED and unread for a month because ops/wiring.py matched it on the generic token 'event' (fixed). Worth wiring once a key exists: Henday/QEII/Yellowhead closures are the gap in the closures rail. THROTTLED AT 10 CALLS PER 60 SECONDS (stated in their own docs at /developers/doc). 281 provincial events vs only ~20 in the Edmonton area — bbox-filter server-side is not supported, so filter client-side on lat/long. Most events are long-running roadwork; filter on IsFullClosure=true or EventType='accidentsAndIncidents' for brief-worthy items. robots.txt disallows /list/getdata/ and /eventdetails/ (the scrape paths) but does NOT disallow /api/, so API use is compliant.
