Notes

The machine-readable copy of edmonton.ca's festivals-and-events calendar: festivals, runs, parades, concerts in parks, each with a venue and a date. First-party, open-licensed, and the largest single source of dated public events the City publishes.

LICENCE LINKED 2026-10-12 (owner: a licence link wherever possible): its dataset on data.edmonton.ca states its licence as 'See Terms of Use' (licenseId SEE_TERMS_OF_USE, read 2026-10-12 at /api/views/<id>.json), and the portal's Terms of Use link opens the Open Government Licence – City of Edmonton v1.0 (story msh8-if28). Read by pipeline/sources/events.py (city_calendar) for the what's-on rail, NOT by a generic collector. `begins` is a floating midnight; `start_time` ('13:00:00') is present only when the organiser gave one — rows without it are all-day. `event_link` is an object {url} and is often absent; those rows link to the City's own calendar page. Do NOT use k2ip-5w5d: it is the same data as a calendar VISUALISATION view and returns {} for every row. event_type is free text from two generations of the form ('Festivals' and 'Festival' both occur); passed through as a category hint, not trusted as a taxonomy.
