Petition seeks professional women's soccer team for Edmonton

A petition is calling for Edmonton to get a professional women's team in Canada's Northern Super League. Organizer Marni Devlin Moses said Edmonton's soccer community is underserved and that the city has no professional women's team in any sport. Edmonton Coun. Thu Parmar has signed and shared the petition. Winnipeg is getting an expansion franchise next year, which would bring the league to seven teams. Edmonton has not had a professional soccer team since 2022, when the Edmonton FC men's team folded because of low fan turnout and financial struggles.

Edmonton velodrome brings Kelsey Mitchell back to cycling

A new velodrome in Edmonton has brought Olympic track cycling champion Kelsey Mitchell back to the sport. The 32-year-old from Sherwood Park, Alta., returned to cycling after competing for Canada in bobsled at the February Milan Cortina Games. The cycling track at the $153-million Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre opened in January.
